How do I become a beekeeper in Virginia?
To become a beekeeper, You can apply for the Beehive Distribution Program. The program is run by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. You have to be 18 or older to apply. Participants are selected at random and if selected, you’ll receive three beehives.
When should you start a beehive in Virginia?
The month of July is a suitable time to start a beehive in Virginia. In July, you can apply to get a beehive from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. VDACS said anyone over the age of 18 can be eligible to receive up to three beehives per year.
Do you need a license to keep bees in Virginia?
The Virginia Bee Law requires that honey bees on combs, hives, and equipment with combs must be accompanied by a certificate of health issued by the Office of Plant Industry Services prior to being sold in Virginia.
