Missouri Beekeeping Supplies

With over six million residents, Missouri’s largest urban areas are Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, and Columbia. As the birthplace of U.S. President Harry S. Truman, Mark Twain, and Walt Disney, this great Midwestern state also played a pivotal role in the westward expansion of the country. The Pony Express, Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, and California Trail all originated in Missouri as well. North of the Missouri River, the state is mostly rolling hills of the Great Plains, while south of the Missouri River, the state is characterized by the Oak-Hickory Central U.S. hardwood forest. And just as Missouri’s history goes way back in time, beekeeping has been a business that has continued to flourish in Missouri for over a century. We proudly support beekeepers by supplying package bees for sale, along with beekeeping supplies for the beehive of hobbyists and commercial beekeepers alike.

FAQ

In Missouri, the winters are not so severe as to warrant the extra labor of cellaring, and then the weather gets really warm in December. winters are nothing compared to our northern brethren and we can successfully overwinter with a deep and a med configuration. Although honey bees are masters at overwintering, living in man-made hives has its challenges for bees.

To become a Beginning Beekeeper, a candidate must take a written exam. To become an Apprentice or Journeyman Beekeeper, a candidate must take a written and practical examination (two hours per exam). Candidates for Junior Master, Master Trainer, or Certified Beekeeper take only a written exam.

Average bee hive densities (hives per acre) recommended for crops grown in the USA range from 1 to 7. Most crops that benefit from honey bees require 2-3. Recommended numbers have inched upwards in recent years because of a drop in wild honey bee densities.
