Asheville Beekeeping Supplies

Beekeeping is huge and only becoming huge in the breathtaking city of Asheville, which lies in western North Carolina’s the Blue Ridge Mountains. Known for its historic architecture, it would be regrettable for anyone to visit Asheville without touring the Biltmore, the city’s 19th-century estate which was built in 1895 as a retreat mirroring the grand castles and estates of France and Britain for George Vanderbilt and his family. Today, visitors can marvel at the architecture and original paintings and furnishings that belonged to Vanderbilt himself. Beyond that, you may also want to explore Pisgah National Forest, which has over 500, 000 acres of large peaks, cascading waterfalls, and heavily forested slopes.

Mountain Sweet Honey Company is all about supporting Asheville beekeepers by offering them top-quality bees and beekeeping supplies, as well as thorough information for beginners and experienced beekeepers. We provide beekeepers across the U.S. with package bees for sale and beekeeping supplies. No matter your level of expertise or how many hives you have, when it comes to bees, we have all you will need to start or maintain a healthy beehive.

Our apiaries are in the beautiful northeast Georgia mountains, and we ship bees on a weekly schedule from mid-March to May.

FAQ

The initial cost of beekeeping can be intimidating to new beekeepers. Getting started with beekeeping can be an expensive hobby often costing around $300 for the hive and around another $100 for bees during the first year (depending on if you purchase a nuc or a package). Most folks recommend starting out with two hives for a variety of important reasons.

To become a Certified Beekeeper, the following steps need to be followed.

  1. Be a current NCSBA member.
  2. Pass a written test, which is administered through a local NCSBA chapter or given at one of the statewide conferences or testing events.
  3. Pass a practical test administered by a Certified Level Beekeeper or higher.
  4. The Practical test will only be valid if given after the candidate successfully passes the Certified Level written exam.

If you can get them early (late April, early May… regionally dependent) we prefer packages over nucs. Any other time of year, a nucleus hive is ideal. In our region, honey bees are available from May until the end of August.
